Commissioning Engineer

An opportunity has arisen to join our Engineering Solutions team.

Purpose of the Role

To work in conjunction with the Manufacturing Manager and the build teams to provide additional technical support and guidance to ensure our projects are production ready and fully meet the sign off criteria as defined in our proposal and the agreed FAT document.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • To liaise with the assigned project manager to gain as early as feasible, access to the agreed FAT document.
  • To host/chair the daily board meetings, proactively setting priorities and be the conduit of information/instructions to the wider team to achieve the required goals for each day / week.
  • To commission or be part of the commissioning team complex mechanical and automation problems on the shop floor and request additional support from internal or external resources if required to overcome any issues.
  • To work closely with a proactive approach with the team should a project be deemed as needing additional support to be fully conditioned. In this instance it is anticipated that you would liaise, instruct and supervise the key personnel (lead mechanical fitter, designer, software engineer) to agree any changes.
  • Within the project(s) identify key activities in order to de-risk the commissioning stages both pre and during test.
  • Challenge the equipment to produce product to customer specification, prior to FAT/ECAP or equivalent and maintain progress updates to the Project Manager.
  • To undertake on behalf of our customers internal FAT’s and to determine when the equipment is ready for the customer FAT.
  • To work to achieve the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) targets as per specification. Potentially travel (Uk & overseas as required) with the equipment to site to support with the training and sign off of equipment.
  • Act as an Applied Automation company representative and first point of contact whilst on-site, maintaining the customer relationship, and keeping the Project Manager informed of any issues and work plan progress.
  • To be part of an “escalation” team for those occasions where a project has gone out of bounds with respect to performance, cost or timescale.
  • To be a good communicator both internally and with customers.
  • Adhere to the company’s SSO (Safe System of Work) at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working and testing automated machinery. Preferred however demonstratable experience of new machine introduction or Process engineering/Senior line technician would be considered.
  • Experience working in a project-driven environment. – Preferred however demonstratable experience in a target driven production engineering role would be considered.

Desirable

  • An experienced, time served Engineer with a good understanding of design principles (Mechanical, Controls and software)
  • A problem-solving mindset to help diagnose technical issues and find practical engineering solutions
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to motivate and direct a technical team to achieve the project milestones.
  • Customer centric mindset and willing to go the extra mile.
  • Commercially focused with a desire to push for results.
